i have been reading posts about alliances and many say things like 'I am in Int 1' or 'I am in Aus 1' or I am in Eng 1'. What does this mean?

This is the server they are in. "Int 1" stands for "International 1", "Aus" means "Australia" and "Eng" is "England".
You are in England 1, as I can see from your signature. When you joined the game, you chose your server.
Each server is like a different world - you will not be able to see any players in Australia 1 or International 2, because they are on separate maps.
Each server is completely identical, apart from the players in them, so you're not missing out on anything.

Well it seems the server selection happens automaticly because my gf hooked me to the game yet i ended up in a different server then she did...
Sure the game stays the same but playing together with her makes it just a bit more fun/exiting
They should give you a choice imho.

No. You choose. If you were too stupid to change the server that was automatically allocated to you when you joined then that's your fault.
When you sign up, it tells you to create a username and password, and to choose a server. I don't possibly understand how you could think that the server chosen is automatic.

1. There is no reason to start being rude by insulting people so please refrain from doing so.
2. No i never had any choice in server. Game loaded, had to enter my email and later i had to create and confirm account.
And IF for whatever reason i missed the server selection(what i highly doubt since its not the first game im playing) that also means i never changed the default for my region.
But i might have a different reason as to why this happend.
Her facebook and browser are set in Spanish while mine is set in English.
I expect that that would cause the default server to change...

You can Choose the server when creating an account. Probably you didn't noticed it was in the bottom of the page.
As far as I am concerned the game do change servers sometimes when creating an account.
When I created this account the game server was set in "International_1", then after my PC crashed I changed my OS and the game server was set in "USA_1"

Then it seems i did indeed missed the selection. Did not see it.
But atleast my theory got confirmed witch explains the difference in server between her and me.

Mostly games (I don't know if this one does too) choose the server and languages depending in the language or IP adress or your Operating System language for example

you have to notice it. At the bottom of log in screen. I also didn't notice and ended up on diff server. But now you change it. Join the server your gf playing on. It won't effact your current game.

I have a question. Me and my sister live in the same house with the same server, but I got en1, and she got usa1.
