Topic: [87450] Defence by incoming attack

Hey! Can you help me with tips for the best defence by an incoming attack please? ex. what do you do when there's a incoming attack with a lot of shields? + can you paste a exemple here, so it's more clear.:):) Can you give me some information about the tools? ex. when there's a incoming attack with rangers and shields? Is the best protection with ranger defence with extra bonus for rangers or with melee defence with extra bonus for your wall?

thats a very good question

Shields decrease ranged ability from the defender by 15% each.

Generally, if you can balance mantlets/shields out, and the incoming attack is ranged, you should balance it out and use mainly ranged defenders. If you can't balance them out or the opponent used mantlets with melee (bad idea, btw), use melee defense and don't bother canceling out the mantlets.

Always remember that the attacker wants to match melee with ranged (and vice versa). As the defender, always try to put melee against melee and ranged against ranged.

in some case, when attackers use too much rubies mallets and shieldwalls with ranged, it's best if you go full melee with bunch of increase in wall-moat. don't even bother to cancel out those tools. It's another kind of tactics (make your melee defenders as strong as the ranged one :) )

Yes, in some cases, that is best, but if you do that, then the attacker has "won" by using the shields and mantlets, because that was probably their aim - to force you to use the type of troop that will give him an advantage. So use it as a backup.

Have I missed something? How do you go with a full ranged or melee defense? The only way I ever would is if the attacker is sending only one type of soldier but if there's a way to set the type of defenders or adjust them, that would be good information to know. Mine just evenly distributes ranged and melee on my walls without any options to change the type of defender or the distribution of a given type.

When you go to defenses, there's a yellow/red bar where you can set how many troops you want on each flank. Underneath that, there's a small picture of a bag of arrows and a sword for each flank. Click on that, and you can select the %age melee/ranged you want on that particular flank.

It doesn't just have to be if the attacker only sends one type of soldier but if they send one type of soldier on a flank, or if it's mostly that type of soldier. The bar can be set to any %age rather than just full melee/ranged or half and half, so you can change it based on any situation.

When you are setting up your defense, you will see on the left of the percent of each flank and gate, their is a symbol like a toyman holding a sword. Click it then you adjust the defender distribution of melee and range :)

Good info. The wall slider is old news but this is the first time I've heard about adjusting the distribution of the types of soldiers on it. Guess I forgot to take my ADD pills in Castle Class that day.

It's quite small - I don't blame you for not noticing. I don't think I even knew about the slider before I came on here.

I caught incoming as soon as I made that last post so maybe I'll get the chance to try it out.

Which one of you snipers sent the attack? X(

;)

Been a very long time since I haven't successfully defended my castle though so I may just leave it at the default 50/50 distribution unless the attacking configuration is all squirrelly.

I just defended against a 1040 troop attack from a foreign castle the other day and this is how I set up the defense.

First, he was sending two waves of Crossbowmen of the kings-guards. And two waves of Knights of the kings-guard.
He sent between 20 and 40 shield walls per wall segment. On the left flank he had 10 breaching towers. In the center he was only sending the shield walls. on the right flank he sent 10 breaching towers plus 17 siege towers.

I put up full melee troops on the center and left flank and all the wall/gate/moat I could. Instead of wall support, I put lime powder bombs on the left flank.(they would give more of a bonus than wall since he was sending the breaching towers.)

The result was that I lost 64 troops and he lost 1040!

I hope that helps!
