Hello there.
All else being equal, which available food-producing outpost would you prefer, for your third outpost in the Great Empire...and why? Here are the choices:

All else being equal, which available food-producing outpost would you prefer, for your third outpost in the Great Empire...and why? Here are the choices:
-
One at a distance of 12 squares, that produces "8" food and "2" stone
-
One at a distance of 3 squares, that produces "6" food and "2" wood

Same here. ( I was faced with a similar decision and in the end I moved my main to a strategic location closer to my outposts)

If it is further off it will increase your detection radius

Thank you for the helpful replies. Though, interestingly, some of you did not address the specific questions posed here.
One question was: "At what distance is an '8' food outpost just not worth having?" Another question was: "[W]hy?"

I would recommend the one which is near because it becomes easier when it is under attack or if you have your friend or alliance member near your that outpost that is far then he or she can atleast transport resources or send support in case of need but its the best to have one near you if your friend is not there for weeks or out on vacation

I agree with RulerAsdasda. 12 isn't a big distance, alliance or no alliance. If it's your third outpost, then you're a pretty powerful player; I don't doubt that you can defend it pretty well. Just that 2 food can make all the difference, and it's worth it's weight in distance...

I guess I understand what most of you are saying. Indeed--if I calculate correctly--adding multiple farmhouses to an outpost, until the last farmhouse has a 23 percent "occupancy rate," would mean the "8" food outpost ultimately would produce 24 percent more than the "6" food outpost. 24 percent is definitely a big boost.
Still, I am surprised the opinions I read here aren't more diverse. Because in my original example the one that gives 24 percent more food is also the one that's 300 percent further away. That makes it proportionately more expensive to send resources to, and probably incapable of getting troop support in an emergency.
Anyway, thank you again, everyone.

Go for the 8 food, but the limit I would personally go for is around 18-22 units away.
But then again it also depends on your alliance. If you get a fully ruby bought deco items 8 food around 40 units away and can't support it within 30 minutes, you're better off with a 6 wood/2food op thats 1 unit near you so you can support it.

There is no Black and white answer to this.
It depends upon your alliance for one. Are they active? Can they support an 8 food OP of yours if its 200 clicks away from you, but in their "territory"
Is the 8food near a guy that is online when you are not?
What lvl you are? At lvl 30 you are not going to be able to cover a 8 food even far away at all, but at a higher lvl with vets and vet research speed, you can.
These are just some initial thoughts and that doesn't even include the distance and thoughts of sending resources.
Ultimately, I wouldn't go far away, maybe 30 clicks at best.

8 food for as far as 30 if you a ruby buyer. A non ruby buyer? I would say 20, unless it is to support an alliance member. In int1, I have an outpost 300+ away to support my leader.
