I can sure use some good advice. My resources are all in the red. My food is the worst. I have 3 farms and have to wait to upgrade. The are sitting at level 3 and I can not upgrade for awhile. I tried adding farms and a notice popped up saying the more farms you have the fewer amount of food you will produce. This seems backwards to me. I would think the more farms you have the more food you produce.
How do I get out of the whole?

The explanation of how the occupancy system works is poorly explained in detail.
You can build 3 plants (in case of your main castle), those 3 plants will produce at 100% of the "default" amount. If you build a 4th plant, this plant (and only this one) will produce 0.75 times (75%) the original or default amount, this doesn't affect the first 3 plants, so feel free to add more plants.
Any plant you build after the occupancy limit will produce 0.75 times what the previous plant produce, and that ONLY applies to the plant you are building and NOT the previous one.

The more resource producing buildings the less rate of production is, if you think through it, quite logical.
For example, if resource A could only fully produce x number of times and there was a y number of buildings which was more than the total of x, then the latter buildings would have to wait for the resource to re-grow before being able to harvest again.

your best bet would be to upgrade your flour mill and buy/upgrade bakery
