Simple sugestion, allow togheter with the veteran version, the normal crossbowman and maceman be recruited.

Vets are superior in nearly every way, but the extreme low time to train and travel speed of normal units is still something that proves more useful than raw power in some circuntances.

That change i belive is simple and will mitigate the lack of fast troops, plus should not be something very hard to do.

What you think people?

the research says that it replaces the normal ones so yeah

also if u want fast troops use some samurai ones or wolves

The difference is the ability to recruit.  Can't recruit a wolf...……...

the whole point of the research is to replace the crossbowmen/macemen/spearmen/archers so this doesnt really make much sense

and wolves are pretty easy to get

Yes dealer, but the research was meant to give a superior troop, what it gives in most part, but there are elements that veterans are inferior to normal troops (recruitment and travel time). 
Wolfs are not regular recruiteable, you need special resource, that is not always easly avaiable. There is a ninche of fast troops that is actualy open, and many dont do the reseach (or do lately in game) to not have the normal troops take away.
My sugestion fix these problems

I never researched the veteran units as i didn't see the need for them. Macemen and crossbowmen are more useful.
