Topic: [372993] Increase the timeout for connection

[-372993] DanielTheCat (US1) [US1] :: April 17, 2020, 8:43 p.m.
With the COVID panic, more people are at home streaming, panic clicking refresh on their mail, and, of course, playing the game.

This means that requests will take longer and AJAX requests will take longer. This has increased the number of "Connection Lost" messages.

While I don't expect GGE to increase their bandwidth or re-code to not reset on simple socket reset, I'd like to be able to play the game without constantly having to refresh the page--increasing usage on the servers. So many people are experiencing this issue and a simple fix would be to increase the timeout--even temporarily.

I don't have this issue. What browser are you using and how old is your device?

Windows, new laptop, hardwired connection using chrome, firefox, edge, and my own coded browser (using many of the MS underlying calls).

Linux, new laptop, hardwired connection using various browsers.

Anyway, I'm over it. Will just accept it.

It could also be an issue from your internet provider. You could give them a call and ask them to reset it. A bit of a hassle and may or may not work. If you have a laptop you could try playing at another location and see if it works for you.

There are actually a number of possible causes of a connection lost event.  Not enough bandwidth from your isp, an idiot with a backhoe cutting a major line, static build-up in a machine somewhere, not enough resources on the server, not enough bandwidth from the server, a bad cable to your machine.  I think there are a few more but don't remember them.

I've lost cat-5 cables to cat, field mouse and dog chewing.  Many of these GGS can't do anything about.  Most of this discussion seems to be between people that probably already know all of this but for normal people I figured a bit more info may help.  Living with it is likely the best option for most people.
