I watched the hobbit 2 months ago, loved it, but thought they could have made slightly more like the book. and also, I had that same harry potter=LOTR thought as well.

Whenever some who tries to compare HP to LotR it makes me want to either laugh or punch them since they are so wrong.

Morgoth and Ungoliant kick ass.

I wouldn't say Harry Potter copied LotR. They're different stories, both of which are great. There are comparisons one can draw between HP and LotR, but that has more to do with LotR being so influential in fantasy fiction. Most later fantasy has been infl. by LotR to some degree, so there are comparisons to be made.

The LotR series is great, the A Song of Fire and Ice (which some people call Game of Thrones) series is great, the Sword of Truth series is great, the Dark Tower series is great. In my opinion those series are some of the most amazing masterpieces of fiction ever written.

Well, for series anyways. There's plenty of stand-alone fiction books that are also incredible. Frankenstein is one of my favorite. Probably one of the darkest stories ever written. Intelligent and disturbing. A story about what it means to be human and the depths of vengeance.
