For an old coot to the strategy games, i think the tutorial tells you, how NOT to start your empire.
First you get the resource fields to sufficient level, when they are COMPLETELY upgraded. Then you think about military! X(

Yes, upgrading mah' casle? If the tutorial wouldn't force me to do that. I would used those resources for making myself two more rows of farms, foresters etc.

Welcome to the game and forum, but I disagree with you, the army is much more important in this game than the economy.
