Topic: [293139] Forum Update: Reactions

[-293139] CM Arcanine [None] :: Dec. 3, 2015, 7:29 a.m.

Hey folks,

You may notice that the ‘reactions’ underneath posts will change a bit! this morning In fact, we’ve decided to remove “Agree”, “Disagree” and “Promote” from the reaction options.

Reactions were always supposed to be a positive feature, allowing you guys to show each other your support, which is why we introduced them in the first place. After some analysis of how they were used, and feedback from the various communities however, we came to the conclusion that things had to be changed in order to improve the feature. I’ll quickly go over the decision process:

Disagree

As mentioned above, the reactions were always supposed to have a positive influence on the community. The Disagree option not only stood out as a negative reaction, but removed space for constructive discussion as to why something was so disagreeable.

Agree

Similarly to the Disagree function, the Agree function seemed to lower the amount of active discussions regarding features/suggestions.

Both of the above were also seen to be used adversely to their original intentions, rather being used to ‘agree’ with friends and ‘disagree’ with players that weren’t on good terms with the reactor.

Promote

The promote function was a little bit different. This is a function that we could use as CM’s to ‘approve’ of specific posts. We’ve decided to remove this in favour of introducing a more global way of showing gratitude. Since this reaction could only be used by us, we wanted to make it clear that we’re all on the same level, and having two buttons of appreciation (one from us and one from you guys) wouldn’t make sense.

Overall, based on the feedback we’ve received from you regarding the current reactions, we feel these changes will help to make the reactions function far more positive and useful.

Hopefully this sheds a little bit of light on the changes we’ve made, and as mentioned, we’ll be introducing one more reaction sometime soon.

As usual, some bugs including the 'random images' bug have been fixed too! We're always trying to improve our Vanilla forums, and your feedback has been highly vital in doing so :)

Best regards,

Your CM Team
