I could go much higher in alliances but I choose not to due to friends

I dont see how having a ruby mine is a bad thing, ive used them in the past to their full load and got the full bonus out of them

I dont see how peeps is a bad thing

PP dont determine how good of a player of you are, if I decided to I get much higher by just sitting back and bragging about some deco items all the time.
