Actually not really at the time my alliance was the noob with 400k ish power and suddenly out of sheer boredom a now 2.5 million power alliance attacked us

I was getting hit with 500-1k Man Armies every hour for the next 24 hours this war started

We sent all of our attack troops to one of our officers who popped his gates so our troops were safe

and 

Since we were all such too lazy to repair fires we popped gates and just let the hits come in

An army composed of 32 armies would give you mini fires that would take very little amount of resources and would probably by under 10 minutes to repair.

I'd rather same mini fires than spend rubies.

At that attack, from that player was 32 troops. But their were others that sent 500-1k man armies. One of my officers who did not open his gates because he was not online came back to a 50-75% Fires

But you still popped on an army of 32..

1 hit of a 1k army will not go up to 75% unless they send an army full of pyros and a fire comm. Other than that I think you might have been over thinking it in the heat of the moment.
