I can't stay up 24 hours a day, but as a permanent non-ruby player unless I win a lot of money somehow instantly, I will probably hit a wall at some point and have to stop playing. That said, I think we should have a function where we can schedule tasks that we want to do but aren't awake enough to do them as fast as we'd like. While I sleep, I'd like a list of tasks to be carried out by my castle and its inhabitants, so to speak, such as building or upgrading buildings or recruiting a specific number and type of troops during the night so that it is done by the time I am ready to wake up and/or log back in the next day. I know this probably will never happen like most things I would like in this game, but I had to ask.

those kinds of things already exist.
the construction crane can have 2 other buildings in line to be built or upgraded. as soon as building 1 is done, it moves on to number 2. as soon as number 2 is done, it goes on to number 3
before logging out, just recruit X number of troops. they finish while your offline. rubies and VIP mode allow for up to 5 slots recruiting.
basically they exist to a limited capacity and with rubies, but GGE wont offer for free what they charge for rubies

That is what I figured, so I guess I will just have to live without it until I hit the point where I can no longer play.
