If you can afford the luxury, and you want to attack more than one castle at the same time. That's the point.

What's the point in paying for a commander at all when GGE gives them away for free?

I get your point. I think you miss my point. Your question "what's the point" is stupid. There doesn't have to be a point to anything a person does aside from their willingness. It's their money, they spend it how they want to. The point can be "because I feel like it" and there is no argument you can come up with for that, because, the "point" is subjective.

I guess you must be in a small alliance, waiting for your commander to come back so you can send it out again is not very efficient in a mass attack.

Yes, I buy quite a bit of rubies. No, I would not waste my money on a Highlander. They keep coming out with too many good commanders from events. Commanders that with the right gems are just as good as Highlander or Elementalist.

I'm not on GB1, so I don't know what 14th in the rankings means, but you've obviously never participated in a mass if you can't see the need for more than one commander.
