I may have just missed it but are there any rewards for bothering with the alliance city?

I dont remember hearing the advantages on steves video or reading the announcement.

you can only find out by building it and fighting in the event...they are not going to tell us beforehand

Owning a City... Erm.... You get the spend the Tokens you win from hitting other alliances Cities.
