4. Think twice before making new alliance
Another ridiculous strategy that may work would be to relocate at the edge of the map like already being said, take only shiny food OPs and tell/teach people in your alliance to do the same. You will survive only if distance between you is less than 50 clicks. Then find good recruiter or if you have lots of time recruit new members by yourself. Scan through the whole map and search for players under LVL 15 without an alliance. Invite them to your alliance, offer protection and resources if they relocate castle near you. This way you can fill your alliance in no time. Make guides for your fellow members and ask them to read an learn with you. To be a good leader, you should be at leas 6 hours online every day. Even better if you have some Deputies in different time zones who can be online when you aren't. Strong alliance should always have some player from the management online to help and guide new inexperienced members.
