List your favorite historical empires and conquerors and why.

I am personally a huge fan of the Mongolian Empire. The Mongol empire was the largest land empire ever. It stretched through Europe, the Middle east and all over Asia. Founded by Genghis Khan who united the nomadic tribes of the Mongolian Steppes, he set off on a conquest that eventually took over much of the known world at the time. They were few in numbers yet somehow managed to forge the largest land empire in a matter of a single lifetime. What granted them this success was the use of a bow and their mastery of horseback. Horses were an essential part of their lives. Many children of these nomadic tribes were already being put on a horse around the age of 3. They were so skilled that some Mongolian warriors could stand on a horse and use a bow efficiently while the horse was in full motion. They played several games with horses and some took place on the icy rivers in the winter. They could ride effectively on ice. Cities and castles that were protected by frozen moats, rivers or lakes in the winter were now being threatened when they least expected it by these skilled nomadic warriors. The Mongolian empire was one of the fastest growing empires. While it took some empires upwards of 10 years to take some cities, Alexander the Great and Genghis Khan overcame these long time periods, both forging some of the worlds largest empires in just their own lifetime.

Genghis Khans army numbered barely over one hundred thousand, but their skill with the horse and with the bow and their ability to cover mass amounts of land in a short amount of time led to the rapid expansion of their empire.

The Mongolian empire also had an effect on the modern world we know today. Their conquest and ability to siege some of the most formidable and well defended cities led to the fall of massive walled cities. This allowed many cities to expand greatly and were no longer confined. Cities grew outward and didn't build on itself which caused mass pollution and filth in the city. They also had a large and fast postal system that spread across the empire. They opened many confined civilizations to other empires which opened up several large trade routes.

Genghis Khan was also a very skilled conqueror. He used many elite tactics to unite the nomadic tribes and set off to take over the world from there. I believe that this grand empire is so often overlooked and ignored. I believe it to be one of the greatest empires in history.

If anyone is trying to remember some large empires in history here is some help:

The Roman Empire
The Macedonian Empire (greek)
The Byzantine Empire
The Ottoman Empire
The Abbasid Caliphate
The Umayyad Caliphate
The Assyrian Empire
The Chaldean Empire (1st or second) (Babylonian Empire)
The Egyptian Empire
Or perhaps one of the many powerful dynasties of China.

And of course many others I have listed.
And if you have a small kingdom of civilization you like and feel was very elite for their time or for others reasons happen to like them feel free to choose that. Alot fo great empires and kingdoms throughout history :D

Yamoto Dynasty

The Yamoto Dynasty is the imperial family of Japan, and has ruled since 660 BC, and is still in power today, making it the oldest empire in history. The Dynasty has had 125 monarchs, starting with the legendary Emperor Jimuu, to the modern day Emperor Akihito. I mostly admire this small Empire for it's ability to evolve and adapt, having survived through two Mongol invasions, a lengthy civil war through feudal times, rapid industrialization, which led to WWII, in which time they invaded Korea, parts of China, Indonesia, and several other countries.

Watched a documentary on them before, they were definitely one of the strongest Asian dynasties, good choice, if I do recall however, they were rather cruel people.
