We all know spearmen. they are the most useless melee soldiers in the game that are still accessible. Most people above lvl 15 don't use them, and if they obtain them, they are usually discarded, for the veteran spearman is more desired. This is the story of a spearman that got abandoned in the worst possible area, Everwinter Glacier......
Intro
This Spearman's name is unknown. So we will call him...umm.......Victus! Victus was the very first soldier in an unknown Castle Lord's army. He was never used more than 3 or 4 times, and spent most of the time sitting in the castle. He was eventually the only Spearman, as the others were killed. One day, the Castle Lord needed Reinforcements in Everwinter Glacier, an area that he had just settled into. The Barbarians were launching a welcome attack on them. He was not meant to be sent, but was sent into the icy cold by mistake. He barely survived the attack. The lord went to see who had survived and had found the Spearman. Since he had no reason to keep Victus, he discharged Victus. This meant he was sent into the Wild to survive alone. but not Entirely Alone.

Chapter 1
He was initially with a group of other soldiers that were discarded. That made about 6 of them. Victus happened to have a map, and proceeded to go South. However, things went wrong immediately. A pack of wolves attacked them, making 4 of them. The surviving group scattered. They eventually met up at what looked like an abandoned Barbarian Tower. However, there were still a few Barbarians inside, who proceeded to chase them off, killing one of them. They were at the far corner of Everwinter. It would take a few months at least to reach the borders of the Great Empire. They found ruins of villages destroyed by barbarians. Dead bodies. Dead animals.
Eventually, after 2 months, they found a Barbarian Fortress. A few Soldiers guarding the perimeter found them and attempted to kill them. As they escaped, one, who had Frostbite in the foot, stumbled and was killed off. Victus and the other barely survived. An arrow had hit the shoulder of the other soldiers, so he was in terrible pain. But one day, they found a Barbarian tower in ruins. The two raced through the tower and found a stash of food, and looted it. However, a Group of Soldiers and a commander had found them. They were under the banner of a Castle Lord, and their food supply was about to run out. They attacked Victus and his partner for the food. Both survived, but a majority of their food was gone. Frostbite, plus the arrow forced Victus to cut his ally's arm off.
As they straggled along for a month of so, they saw something. It was a sword of a Kingsguard Soldier. Victus took the Sword and gave his partner, who lost his weapon when battling the army, his old spear. After a week or so, Victus's partner died of blood loss, plus the cold and lack of food. This left Victus on his own. He survived by killing wolves and eating them. But most of the time it was raw, as trees are scarce in Everwinter, so no fire could be made. Then, he found a Mysterious Grove. An incredibly rare breed of a wolf known as the Direworf was in front of him. They were much more aggressive and powerful than an ordinary wolf. Castle Lords havent used them in years as they had a tendency to eat allies, which is why they are usually on their own.
He fought the Direwolf. It attempted to pounce him, but..........

Chapter 2
The Direwolf struck, and he slashed his sword. He fell back from the force. He thought he was dead. He reasoned he was dead, in a Hell that made you fight Foreign Castle Lords and Bloodcrows back to back. He got the courage to open his eye, and found the direwolf stabbed through the stomach by the sword, pinned to the ground. It would be too dangerous to remove the sword, as it was still alive. He either had the choice to leave it, and come out weaponless, wait until it lost enough blood to die, or try to kill it faster. Victus chose the 3rd option. he kept throwing rocks at the wolf until it stopped making a noise. He waited a moment and withdrew the sword. It was dead.
He then made a fire from the rocks and roasted it. He ate it and slept by the fire. He had the strangest dream. It was a Bloodcrow, one who looked eerily similar to the Bloodcrow that killed his family during an attack. He went to pull out his sword to kill the Bloodcrow, but when he reached for it, it was just a pile of dust. When he looked up, where the Bloodcrow was, there was now a heap of ash. In the ash was in-scripted "From Dust all is made, to Dust all shall return". After he read it, the dust returned into the Bloodcrow, and it stabbed Victus. He felt no pain, but saw himself ascend from his body, it slowly becoming, or "Returning", to dust. His vision blurred, and he woke up.
Victus saw his sword was still with him, and then proceded south. He walked many a mile, and than came upon a man pinned to the ground, with a spear through his stomach, similar to the Direwolf. He saw Victus and asked him to end it all, for he was suffering too much. He thought long and hard about it. Not killing him would mean more suffering, but killing him would be murder. Euthanasia, the forced, or organized killing of someone was strictly forbidden in the Empire of his Castle Lord. He, as well, was strongly against it. But he figured it was the best decision, and stabbed his sword into the man's head. It was over, and he proceeded south again, but he saw something. Something that made him stop in his tracks and made him want to go back up north.......

Chapter 3
Bloodcrows. Bloodcrows EVERYWHERE. They were advancing in large numbers. And in the lead, was the Bloodcrow he saw in his dream. Which also meant it was Bloodcrow that killed his family.
Here is how 1 Spearman managed to kill an entire army of at least 500+ Bloodcrows:
Before they saw him, he rushed up a nearby Norsemen tower. The very top was sealed off from a collapsed room, but he found a way to break it open with his sword. inside just so happened to be a skeleton with Norseman armor and a bow and a few quivers of arrows. From this tower Victus killed nearly all the Bloodcrows in the front. Nearly, because the lead survived. He started heaving some of the ceiling that blocked the top over the tower onto the bottom. This didn't kill many, but to those who didn't see it, they thought they were under attack and started slashing and shooting. By the time the last big ceiling piece was thrown off, nearly all but about 200 died.
Victus was out of ideas. How would he kill the rest. But he was determined to live. And to get revenge. Out of rage, he desperately threw the Norsemen skeleton off the tower. This only killed 1-2 who weren't paying attention. Then he got an idea: intimidation! He quickly shouted something along the lines of, " That is only one of the many dead norsemen I had single-handedly slain! March forward even a step, and you will be struck down!".
If they had known he was a spearman, they wouldve marched up the tower while laughing. But they didn't know that. So they were scared. The Bloodcrows slowly backed off, but he still shot the lead Bloodcrow. He had gotten revenge! and had lived! They stormed off not looking back. He went down the tower and continued his quest. Some Bloodcrows dropped their food to make them escape quicker, so he had more food now.
He saw the floor slowly become white to green. He saw the Great Empire unfold before him. HE would now have to deal with much weaker Robber barons now. But the hardest challenge awaited him........

Chapter 4
Revenge on his castle lord. Number one priority. Victus took his sword, and straggled across the Great Empire. Robber Barons never really marched across the land like Norsemen did. They mainly infiltrated castles.
This led to Victus's great revenge.
He saw his Castle, which was in the Northeast section of the Great Empire. He saw the large colossus with the bloodstain on the sword that only his Lord's colossus had. He sneaked behind the attacking robber barons as they attacked the Castle Lord. They fought desperately to loot the castle, but they still died. This was enough time for Victus to sneak near Castle Walls.
His first plan was to stay hidden, and when the night guards and day guards switched position, he would slash up all the food they were growing and then throw it into the moat the Castle Lord now had. He would then run into the woods and hide
He executed the plan. It worked. Nobody noticed. He ran into the forest. Next morning, he snuck out quietly. A woodcutter noticed him. He held up his axe in caution. If he were to let the woodcutter lve, he would report to the Lord a spearman is snooping around. Against his will, he quietly killed the woodcutter.
He sneaked into the castle, as the night guards and day guards switched position, and nobody noticed. He went into the Military hospital. He stabbed the Nurse, and proceeded to kill every single troops in the hospital. He went out, and went into the Sawmill. with a torch he had from killing a pyromaniac in the hospital, he burned all the wood their. He then went into the Stonemason, slashing it with the Berserker sword he found in the Military Hospital. He then burned up all the cut of stone.
He then burned up the little food left in the Flour Mill.
The next day, a great moaning was heard by Victus. He heard the starving of thousands of troops. He saw fires he started in the Stonemason, Flour mill, and Sawmill had burnt it down completely, and many woodcutters, stone quarries, and farmhouses had Victus had snuck into the keep during this, and burned up all the coins in the treasury. The Castle walls could not be conditioned, People lost their homes, which led to more rioting. Public Order drastically took a hit. The Estate lost connection with the Other Castellans. The financial issues caused the Outposts to collapse. The Castle in the Everwinter collapsed, with all the inhabitants freezing to death. The funded mission to the Southern Desert was canceled. Soldiers quit the army. Robber baron attacks set more of the castle ablaze. In the heat of all this, Victus snuck behind the Keep, and while the King tried to calm down the rioters, Victus behead the Lord.
By law, he was now Lord. He realized he did not think this through. He hightailed into the top of the keep. From there, he jumped over the walls into the moat. He came out and ran back into the woods, never to be seen again.

Epilouge
Most of the people left. Those who thought they could repair the castle stayed. A group that left came back to loot supplies, and found the people who stayed starved to death. They found no supplies. The Castle gate collapsed, and everybody stuck inside starved.
Victus was never heard from again. Some claim he joined a mercenary group. Others say he became a Robber Baron. Some say he died shortly after the escape from an infected leg after jumping over the wall into the muddy moat. The most possible theory states that Victus is what would become the Thorn King, a cursed ruler taking over an originally beautiful kingdom, and making it a wasteland. and After he is defeated, he apparently "returns to dust", and lies in wait, for another foolish king to steal his land from
But is that true? It is also possible he went to the Storm Islands, and died in the storm. Is THAT true? Who knows? Anything logical could be true. And that is true for many things......
