I searched the forum for this and couldn't find it. Please direct me to the thread if it already exists. (Maybe make a sticky?)
How many of each buildings should you have in your main castle. Is there an optimal layout?
I've been looking at the layouts of other high ranking players in my area and the layouts all vary. Maybe it just depends on the player and their style of play, but there has to be an optimal amount of a certain type of building and certain ones you don't really need.
Although I don't have any outpost yet, I read that each of them specialize in a certain resource. What's the optimal building set up there?

There is a thread somewhere but I couldn't find it the last time I looked.

That was the point of this post. To find the old one, or to create a new one with better tagging / information.

I found it, but it is outdated. Scroll all the way to the bottom to see the optimal layout of a castle.

If someone could make a new one, that would be great.

Wow, we would have never worked that one out HT, thanks.

Thanks for the thread, but maybe I'm not being clear with the question. Shouldn't there be an ideal set of buildings that everyone uses. For example...
7 - dwellings
5 - farmhouses
5 - wood cutters
5 - guard houses.......etc.
Anything like that for castles / outposts?

It depends how you want to play the game.
Some people have 6 guardhouses, some have only 1. Do you want to stop espionage or are you not that bothered? Some people like being attacked and only build 1.
Dwellings - Depends how much tax income you want. Some have 4, I have 10, some have 50.
Woodcutters/stone masons. Again, depends what level of resource income you want. If you use overseers you'll probably need less.
I think just keep a constant check on levels and eventually it will become a lot easier when you decide what kind of game you want to play. Defensive/offensive or balanced.

hmm, of cours, with the farmers and wood cutters and stone quarries you produce less if you got more than three.
and they take a lot of space if you got many of them

You need 3 taverns to get max spies, and you'll need them too. Again most people have between 4 and 6 guarghouses as this keeps the spies at bay.
Also remember once you build the research tower you'll need a lot of resource income to fund the research. Some research costs close to 120k resources.

replace all decorations with festival squares and the quest decorations.
As has been said on the other thread, having only the exact maximum occupancy rate is just plain stupid. In my 75% stone quarry, I produce 94.3 stone per hour. There is no way that I could get double that (because of the space) from each and every single jousting list.
FYI, the treasure map decorations are not as good as festival squares. Look at this thread - http://en.board.goodgamestudios.com/empire/showthread.php?15476-Public-Order-Space-Ratio-for-Decorations.
EDIT: Someone before me posted the link to that thread. I didn't see it. I guess great minds think alike. Anyway, I mostly edited this to say VICTORY COLUMNS. They are superior to festival squares. I don't know the exact space it takes up, but it looks a fair bit small than a festival and gives +135 PO.
Having 1 tavern is a terrible idea. You need each and every one of those 15 spies to get anywhere with espionage on any half-decent player.
Why 1 guardhouse? Either protect yourself from espionage/sabotage or don't. You can get mega-protection (6+ guards), average protection (3 guards) or no protection (0 guards). I don't see the point in having 1 guardhouse because it won't stop anything.

It's not obvious at all - how were we supposed to know that you threw it together quickly?
It should be modified A LOT. If I had to decide a number in 5 seconds (which I am doing), I would say 8 farms and 5 wood and 5 stone. I would say 3 guards and 3 taverns.

Apart from the "X Festival square" (replace with "X victory column"), I agree. But that leaves a fair bit for the player to decide - you might as well say "as many fully upgraded buildings/decos as you can fit in the fully extended castles and all wall/gate/towers fully upgraded".

That looks better but you will need dwellings or you wont have any taxes and wont be able to make any soldiers.
You can either have the moat or the castle moat but not both.
What's a town hall?
Also, you'll probably always have a few small spaces left over so you'll probably need a few smaller decorations.

I believe that it's supposed to be a town house - that's why it says "0 dwellings". You can also get lots of coins from other ways - RBCs provide a couple of thousand each, barbarian fortresses give 10K coins per attack and I think that the dragon castles and sand fortresses give a lot of coins as well. You can also get small bits and pieces - the daily login bonus, some glory ranks and a decent number of quests. It's up to you if you want any, and if you do, how many you want.
Yeah, it should just say castle moat and not moat.
Can someone tell me the exact measurements of every building in the list, the amount of space a victory column takes up and the space you have in a fully extended castle? If so, I can work out how much space you would have left.
