I'm thinking as many as possible. It might sound a bit excessive, but I don't think that sending 200 2HS (or 2HSM as you call them) would be a bad idea. Of course, at some point, you stop getting extra loot and just start paying extra coins to send extra soldiers, but better be safe than sorry.

BTW, veteran macemen, crossbowmen, spearmen and bowmen are available through the research tower which you unlock at level 39. However, you do have to do a bit of researching before you get to unlock the veterans (you'll see what I mean when you get there).

@dragon213: do espionage, as set-ups vary every level, so there is no good blanket formation, it depends what their defense is like.

Generally, swordsmen suck.

@B.Stinson: I win all my battles, be it attacking or defending cause I build Swordsmen" - have you ever actually attacked/been attacked by a decent player? I would love someone to send any entire army of swordsmen against me :D

I don't think he's a high level (no offense). He did say the best until you get veterans, implying that he's under level 39 or just recently reached level 39.

maybe, but they still aren't as good as the troops you get from lv4 and 5 barracks, and those are available at a much lower level.

I don't think my sarcasm projected very well. Perhaps I should use half a dozen emoticons next time so the message is extra clear, but I swear a martial arts quote would be enough...

We really need a sarcasm font...

Sarcasm never works online. Neither does any other tone - people insist on telling me to "take a chill pill" when I'm perfectly calm.

Maybe some extra text instead of an actual font - [sarcasm] [/sarcasm] could work quite well. Of course, that's if we don't mind people asking us which asylum we're locked up in.

UPDATE: I tried 40cbs and 20 2HSM (60 troops)

RESULTS: Lost 2 2HSM and 3 CBS (-5)

LOSSES = About 50 mins build time and 380 Gold.

CONCLUSION = Better results not having the regular SM in there.

Next I will try a solid block of 50 2HSM and see...

You should have better results sending just pure 2-handed swordsmen, also sending between 4-6 ladders to remove the castle wall bonus on said flank will work out well.

Bob and Jade, calm down, you are getting a little to heated ;) I think that swordsmen are gillers, that if you need cheap labour for multi-purpose use. They are quite useful if you know how to use them as said before in earlier reports, but they are not the strongest soldier in the game in terms of "pound for pound"

What are you talking about? Bob and I, were just talking about the swordsmen, I am not getting*heated*, and probably he is not either, so I have no Idea what you mean anyway...

Jade, I was just stating that you seem to be rather passionate about the subject, and are taking it into deep consideration, I meant no offence if that is how you took it.

I have no Idea what are you talking about, in fact bob was asking me why, so I answer him, now you get it?

No, I get what you were saying beforehand, but if you look up above about 6 or 7 posts to Bob's last statement, you'll see exactly what I was talking about. And you don't have to speak to me like a child, me speak good english.

Can't really blame the guy for interpreting it as a "heated discussed" the pair of you could be as calm as a tranquil distant lake yet from an outside view-point reading it with all the snappy bad attempted pretentious back to forth douche remarks such as "if you carefully read my post (by the way I'm going to point out that you didn't in brackets cause you know just implying it isn't enough I have to say it aloud in attempt to belittle you)". Then a large sized red colored "why" to finish it off as the cherry on top. Go ahead and re-read it yourself from an objective view point if you are able to for further confirmation.

I'm seeing comments dripping with sarcasm, us both putting words in each other's mouth, me shouting (bold, underline, red, full capitals), Jadet telling me how to suck eggs and us both implying things and saying that the other can't read.

I guess you're right. But I was still... "as calm as a tranquil lake".
