You see Bob, I am not as crazy as you think I am :) All joking aside, I think swordsmen can be useful in some situations, but they aren't the strongest, and best unit to use, jsut a cheap alternative

They would only be good if you had researched all vets and wanted some cheap troops to send on a suicide mission, to sacrifice honour points for example.

Otherwise they suck, especially if you have barracks lv5.

Using Macemans and Crossbowmans for someone with a level 3 barracks is still better than using swordsman

Why when I send my units out on attack sometimes they never come back despite the stats saying I won and only lost a few men?

I trained swordsmen once but realized they were jack of all trades master of none types... so eventually I stopped recruiting and left some for sentimental reasons... maybe 1 as mascot... or 1 lone soldier to carry ladders produced from siege workshops in outposts.... :D
