Right when you start playing the game, you have protection from attacks for 7 days. Now most newbies go ahead and rush to battle, thinking they can handle it. Well, just before you go to battle, you should use your 7 days to the extreme.
Use those 7 days to build your castle, your walls, your towers. Make sure you have a good defense (use the formation 0-0-100 or 100-0-0). Do the quests and level up. Make sure you attack robber baron castles (RBC's). Expand your castle, build farmhouses, make tools, build towers and upgrade them if you can.
And Please DON'T use the rubies you get at the beginning to complete buildings. It doesn't hurt to be patient. Save those rubies up to build bakeries. If you need more rubies, then level up, attack robber baron castles, complete achievements, and complete quests without "xp"written next to them. If you want to learn more about how to spend your rubies then visit this thread
Just use those 7 days well to establish yourself and to become a player with a good defense.
Once those 7 days finish, you will have as many wars as you want. But if you don't use those 7 days, you will grow to regret it.
You may also run into problems with food and lack of resources, so you probable should start attacking robber baron castles (widely known as RBC or RBCs). When attacking robber barons make sure you do it in turns that keep all of your robber barons at the same level (or a batch of 9) that way you only spy once, spy the closest hit the furthest.. write down your attack strategies per level, you may want to start a new batch and you can use your record to hit the robber barons at levels you have already hit.
After leveling up a bit you will need to get some outposts: you want all of them to be "shiny Foods" with 8 Food. The best combination for the long run of the game is to have two of those Outposts with 2 Wood, and one with 2 Stone.
If there are any more tips please comment and give me feedback.
Thank you,
Abdul

The problem with N00b players like me is the restriction on how big your army can be when you don't make a lot of food....I lost 70 odd army a couple of nights ago because I must have run out of food.... bummer.

As a low-level you want to be in the positive food production. When you become a higher level, it will be better to be in the negative food production.

Thanks Abdul - I've enjoyed reading your tips etc...Problem is that I'm happy to collect the relics and get the advanced (for me) attackers etc, but get annoyed when my food production goes into the red whenever I build up a half decent force....even adding decorations doesn't make a huge difference. Just gotta keep attacking to get food loot...

Why formation (100-0-0) or (0-0-100) not (0-100-0)?

I am very new to this game and find your advice interesting, though I need to know more.
Firstly, I am now level 10 and I have been given the quest 'Big Enemy, Big Honour' where I have to attack another castle. Is it safe to do this? So far i have attacked only the Robber Baron castles.
Secondly, what size army do I need to have built before I am attacked? I currently have 52.
Thirdly, I don't understand the formation concept 100-0-0. Would you please explain?
Thanks so much.

the guy who made this thread has been playing this game for a while now. Cause now u get soliders every day. I used my protection a couple of hours then attacked and farmed off all the castles around me for about a week then they went to ruins. My advice is get rid of the protection in about the 3rd day r so wen ever u egt the 25 crossbowmen r macemen and the 25 spear men then u attack low levels around u

here is some more tips
1. never attack with defense troops, this is bad idea because they will get wiped out.
2. it is best to use 0-100-0 that way you get the gate bonus as well as the wall bonus
3.spread your defense tools out it does not help to pile them up in one slot
4.i would sagest building up defenses first the your attack army, that way you can be ready when the attacks are aimed at you.
5.once you get an out post put all your attack troops there, it is less likely to get attacked,
6.dont over do it with the recruiting, you get troops from the daily rewards so don't recruit to many or you will lose them all.
hope this helps.

Sorry guys for not replying sooner
You can always ask your friends or neighbors to send you food. Just send messages to a lot of people and some of them will send you some food.
random31, formation (100-0-0) or (0-0-100) is the best because that is where the attacker has his least number of soldiers, this way if you win the battle at the wall neither of you will have a bonus.
When you level up and grow stronger, (50-0-50) becomes the best option, because this way both of your flanks are well protected and if you win both of these flanks, the attacker will receive a 30% reduction in his power.
1) kathy, if you have upgraded all of your towers and set up a good defense, then feel free to start attacking, but be careful of who you attack. Look at the person's alliance. If the alliance is strong, don't attack.
2) A good idea to stick to, is to spy on the person's castle first and plan for your attack from there. That's what I do.
3) Look at the above explanation that I wrote for random31
Thank you mb73992 for the recognition
You could always do that, but make sure you have your towers upgraded, so when you get your level 2 towers you can upgrade fast.
1) your first is correct. But defense troops play a role in attacking, such as martyr waves. They are cheapest form of troops.
2) NOPE, there is no gate bonus AND wall bonus. The only way to get a bonus is if you win 2 flanks. If you place all of your soldiers in the middle, they will most likely get killed because the attacker can place the most amount of troops in the middle.
3) Yeah this is true, but put at least 4 tools in the slots, that way your tools have an effect on all the attack waves. Tools are only good for 1 wave. So if a person attacks you with 4 waves and you only have 1 tool in the slot, then the 3 other waves will not be affected.
4) I agree with you
5) Not Always, some people wait for people to get outposts to attack them there and they keep on attacking the outposts, especially if it is an 8 food outpost.
6) This tip is correct, it is very hard for low-levels to keep all of their troops at the beginning. When I first played, I had a lot of trouble trying to keep my troops, but I kept them because I had help from other alliance members.
aidan953, I really appreciate you trying to help, but some of your tips are incorrect and can lead to a defeat.

If you go to "the king's market" (bag of rubies), at the top are 3 tabs. Click on the one all the way at the right and go to the second page.
You can get food faster by building decoration items, building more farms, getting an overseer (costs rubies), upgrading your farms, looting other players, and if you become a higher level player: you can research food and build hunter's camp.
I don't know why your food went more into the negative, but maybe you started a recruit and that is what made it worse.
Thank you so much.
