This is not cheating, the espionage report shows the amount of troops at the time he arrived, not the amount that will be there when your attack(s) arrived. It is perfectly possible and if you didn't killed a single soldier probably your attack was terrible and/or your opponents were strong.

even i had same experience when you spy there will be only few attackers but when you attack the report will show 2000 (possibly defenders)

Being in an alliance who has quite a few towers, I can say that it's a veritable noob-fest since the update.

Every level 10 player really wants a royal tower, although not a single one of them has any idea what it even is.

I might start a new thread, but for now I'll post this simple idea:

If a player is too low level to capture an outpost, why are they allowed to attempt to capture royal towers AND capitals?

Can we please restrict these end game, kudos items to higher levels? Noob attack after noob attack gets a bit boring after a while.

if you espionage someone the report shows you it.but if the troops have changed then it would say results of the espionage are no longer up to date????(?(?(

Maybe they need to set a min. size of army that can attack, maybe 1000 troops, just to keep the noobs from trying to take them when they haven't a chance.

Not true. The only time the spy report becomes out of date is if you have already attacked that target or if the ownership of the target has changed.

Rule 1 in empire: Never trust a spy report. It only shows what was in that location at the exact moment your spies arrived.

No, generally they are just new players who have no idea about the game. Although restricting lower levels form hitting these things would save a lot of fake cheater accounts too.

that's just annoying but you should always check alliance so they don't send good support and attack at night or in mornin' so there all asleep

Spy reports are essentially useless when trying to determine the amount of troops in a castle when the person your espionaging is in an alliance that can provide support. Nearly every attack you send will be met with alliance support.

However, espionages are usefull for determinig offline tool set ups and castelean bonuses. These might change if a player is online to adjust their defences but these are more likely not to change. Use espionages as more of a rough estimate of the type of tools and castelean strength, not overall troop count.

Hope this helps.

If you want to confirm how many troops and what type they are, then send spies to land a very short time, like a few seconds, before your attack lands.

good advice porky pig but also, make sure your espionage accuracy is good enough

Well sure - I send all 20 spies, most of the time.

*That moment you click the + a numerous amount of times to add spies, and then you realize it's already down to 5%*

What? Makes no sense.

You have 20 spies, it's funny when you (I) click to add spies, get distracted, then look back and the chance of be caught is 5%.

[1687188] Lord Porky [None] :: Jan. 1, 2014, 3:52 a.m.
Okay, Aidan - if the target has so few Guardhouses that a lesser number of spies takes it to the supposed minimum chance of getting caught, 5%, then of course you send the minimum number that takes it to 5%.

I cannot remember that happening - and I know that it does happen with some lower-level players - but I'm used to like 12% - 60% chance of failure with all 20 spies, i.e. the targets have decent to excellent defense against spying on them.
