So after a few hours in Test Server....I don't completely hate this.  It looks like GGE put a lot of creative effort into the design, it's....interesting.

A couple unfiltered thoughts:
1. The rewards.  STINGY.  I see sacks of construction materials, and a decent PO piece.  To quote Dom DeLuise's Nero in History of The World...."Nice.  Nice.  Not THRILLING....but Nice."     GGE, this needs work.
2. I like the trade-offs with Easy Mode, minor payoffs, and Hardcore Mode, with the Multiplier.  For those not happy with the PvE-heavy feel (see comments, lot of 'em) I agree, but I think a lot of players will gravitate to the Hardcore Mode to get the better payoffs, and that will erase some of your gripes.
3. Did I mention the rewards?  OK, just in case Thought #1 didn't sink in: The rewards are going to kill this event if you, GGE, don't fix them.  Seriously.  I can get Public Order.  I can get Fine Sand.  Put some skin in the game and take a second look at the REWARDS.  If you do, I promise, the players will respond and this will be a success.
they already have said that there is gonna be new equipment sets, if remember correctly there is 2set for over 70 and 2 other sets for under 70 players.
probably just didn't want to show the sets in test server

So from what I have heard so far from players on test server there is zero point in defending shapeshifter attacks. Until this is fixed everyone will do exactly what we_ner said and keep 0 troops or just enough to tb tools. No point in helping your opponents by defending with 20k troops so they get extra points/tokens whatever. Another stupid and pointless event which is not pvp. 

To those hoping the new company will make changes to GGE forget about it--current GGS executives will stay in their current positions after merger.

any idea about the difference between in points gained defending a hit with strong defence (and losing) versus opening the gates?


This was always my concern about this event. The Twitch broadcast kind of implied that it would still gift your opponent a ton of points if you opened gates but would be interesting to see the difference in points

what about giving points to the defender for a successful defense ? that would be a motivation for the defenders to defend

yes, they should give some points from defending, but even without the points why would you move all your units out from the castle?

why would you use rubies to open gates?

edit: and if you move all your units out from the castle opponent gets veryvery much points. I believe no one really opened gates at test server because its waste of rubies, so I don't know how that would affect to points. no good reason to open gates when you have nothing to lose defending.

I think the suggestion was that they would analyse player behaviour based on the test server running and then make final adjustments to the scoring following a development team discussion process.  If players on test servers don't defend and if they want them to defend then they'll vary the points but that might be a bit tricky to manage initially.  I think the likelihood is it might be adjusted over a few runnings.  I think that would be okay if they as open about it as they seemed to be in the broadcast.  I'm personally okay with a live test that we can all participate in.

Tell them many of the players are tired of everything being geared toward the attacker. Add in something for the defender or be prepared for this event to go down in flames or at least not be nearly as popular/profitable as GGE wants.

I agree! if I recall right, this event was brought on for a p2p event and to aid in players to learn how to defend, why defend when there is nothing to gain? I think there should be something like another bracket for rewards for the defender, like a 3rd currency possibly...

As someone said previously (sorry I forgot who, but I'm not combing through so many pages of posts)
Just do it kinda like in the royal capital: If you loose a defense, you loose some points. If you win a defense, you win more points, or sth like that.

At least reward points for defending well! Sheesh, it's not that hard.

Or, 0 points for defending unless if you win a defensive battle? If you win a defensive battle you gain points, but if you lose then you lose points as well. However, another alternative is to gain points only for winning, but not gain or lose any points for losing a defensive battle meaning that you only get points for winning, but also not lose any points for losing either. The amount of points you gain for winning however would depend on the strength and size of the attack as well meaning the bigger and stronger the attack the more points you can gain for winning against that attack defensively. With the Shapeshifter event being planned for tomorrow the event may need to be readjusted later after the event ends possibly before any points can be added into the event for winning a defensive battle, because it may take longer than you think for GGS to determine the math of how points will be calculated for winning a defensive battle.

you're right about opening the gates being a waste but I was being lazy and not putting "or evacuating" Thanks for the info

Ok so event started, and I will give it a go to see if i am missing something, but initial reactions are whats the point? unless I am reading it wrong you get about 5 green token things per hit if u do ok on the hit, and need 200 for a 230 PO deco.  

Firstly 40 hits that take over an hour to land to be able to afford to buy a 230 PO deco,  and I can make a max of  5 hits a day?  so i got to hit all my camps for 8 days straight before I can afford to buy a single deco of 230 PO.  Given the fact I am already replacing my 240 PO items, I am really stuggling to see why i would give the event the time of day?

Like I say this is a first impression thing, as its first time i seen the event but so far so bad lets hope its a grower not a shower.  Cos if this is it.  LOL.  Oh dear.

in the other thread someone clarified that they will add equipment and other prizes at a later date, and also that gems/points carry over like noms/sams - so it might be worth banking all those points now to spend at a later date
