Is it just me, or does is this event just too expensive to be worth doing given the limited amount of time to complete it?
- Transporting wood and stone costs no gold, but has a horrendously low 10% efficiency. This means it essentially costs 4890 stone + 4530 wood to build a small tent, and 8740 stone + 8240 wood to build a training ground. To make matters worse, resources can only be sent from my main castle; resources sent from an outpost need to be routed through my main castle, subjecting them to an additional gold cost and time delay. For comparison, my main castle gives 246.3 wood + 265.6 stone per hour and I have one outpost, which gives 198.4 wood per hour. (I also have a castle in Everwinter Glacier, but wouldn't even think of sending resources from there to Thorn King; resources are scarce enough as is!). So a single small tent already wipes out more than 18 hours of stone production for my entire account! There doesn't seem to be any other way of getting stone and wood; I attacked a resource village once and got only food, which is utterly useless because I get that for free from my main tent anyway.
- It costs 57 gold to transport a two-handed sword and 55 gold to transport a heavy crossbowman. Throw in the recruiting costs, and that's 172 gold for a two-handed sword, 165 gold for a heavy crossbowman. For comparison I get 128 gold from a 10-minute tax. Recruiting and sending a force of 10 two-handed swords and 10 heavy crossbowmen single-handedly wipes out over half my gold for a day; and it's even worse if I send siege tools.
- And what do I get for all this trouble? No exp for attacking resource villages and enemy towers, a modest amount of rubies and troops that I can't take home with me (and who will probably die in the next resource village or tower attack anyway).
So... It's not worth it, right?
For the record, I'm Level 29 and I never, ever spend money on this game (or any games, for that matter...)

I'm level 59, soldiers and money is really not a problem, but is really realy annoying putting so much efforts to earn ~850 rubies some kingsguard soldiers that will die in a couple of battles, This event is fun but is not worth it, and is very hard for low levels for the coin costs, with some soldiers you will get resources if you farm the Small Villages, and you will suffer minimal loses..., but of course having less coins it must be pretty hard for you

i dun sent resources there, i attack small resource village only in order to gain what i need (200 wood& stones 800 food). with the right amount of troops, you would only lose 1 unit or none (mostly for me). i think its fun to get king's guard at the end n also rubies for attacking those towers.
i m at the last castle now. ready to bring it down n send home some KG

Do not send resources from your main castle to the Thorn King. You are not supposed to - the game makers only added the option because otherwise people would complain about it. Farm small villages - lose a maximum of 1 troop per attack (if you do it right) and you get 200 wood and 200 stone per attack (along with 800 food).
A modest amount of rubies? 850 is not modest - it's fairly large for non-ruby players. You don't *have* to spend rubies to complete this.
If you only earn ~150 coins per 10 minute tax, either you are much too low a level, or you REALLY need to look at adding more dwellings. I earn over 700 coins per 10 minute tax, and I am only level 43.
The kingsguard troops are great - you can take them home if you don't waste them on attacks. There might be a couple of difficult towers that you have to use the powerful soldiers for, but you certainly don't need to use them to attack every small resource village (and they wouldn't die at the villages if you have enough troops and have a brain, anyway).
EDIT: Look at my guide on this in the "Tips + Tricks" section for more help on how to complete this. However, if you're under level 30 (which you probably are) or have very few coins (which you definitely do), then you might not want to even try.

Lv 59?! How is that possible?! I joined this game during the beta stage; so I would think the oldest players shouldn't have had a lot more time than I've had...
Anyway, I just tried attacking a small resource village using 19 troops and 4 tools. This time, I got 84 wood, 84 stone, 338 food and no rubies. Much better than getting no wood or stone. But still not much... How do you get 200 wood and 200 stone?

Send more troops - troops can only carry the maximum amount of loot based on their loot capacity. Send as many troops as you can (in this case, 96) but only attack the weak flanks.
You level up faster if you are online more - I joined a couple of months ago (2 months and 1 day :P), and I am level 43. I would imagine that I spend an average of 5 hours on the game per day - you don't have to be that active, but it certainly helps.
BTW, unless I'm mistaken, the game is still in beta.

If you don't want to do it at least attack the first tower, you get some knights.

Can we please try and stay on topic? This particular section is about GGE - go to the off-topic section.
BTW, it's been a while seen I watched/played Yu-Gi-Oh, but I seem to remember that there were more than one set of the Egyptian god cards (I think one red one was called Ra, and it did 1000 damage per something-or-other, and there was a blue and a golden/yellow one) in circulation. Not in the TV show but in real life.
And didn't Yugi beat Exodia somehow? He definitely beat that guy (the one who runs the company who hates Yugi and never accepts his help) with them, but I'm sure he beat them in another episode.

Personally, I have stopped trying to complete the thorn king event. Without offense to the game developpers, the rewards are far too little in regards to the amount of time and effort necessary to complete it.

This event sucks!!!
You send in soldiers, right, but you send in the best so they don't all day after the first battle, that cost you alot. Then the cost to send them in is ridicoulouse.
This event is a rip-off.

I think you meant "die", not "day". You would have to send in some pretty terrible troops for them to die in the first tower - it has exactly 1 defender.
The cost is not ridiculous - if you are struggling for gold, it means you were a too low level to try and do this or that you need to look at your dwellings, population and taxes a bit closer.
The event is not a rip-off: the only time that you spend more than you get back is if you make some stupid mistakes (I'm not trying to insult anyone - I made a couple of dumb mistakes myself, and that's what inspired me to make the guide in the "Tips + Tricks" section) or weren't ready for the event.

As with so many others here, tried the Thorn King event and have come unstuck. With hindsight its my own fault for trying it at too low a level but I will be very wary of trying any other event.

As weird as it sounds to type this, maybe the game devs set the level requirement for this event too low. Players within the first 5 levels above the minimum requirement for this event do seem heavily underpowered economically, at least for free players...
I've leveled up to 30, and managed to gradually claw together enough resources to build enough small tents for max troop strength of 30 and 110% morale bonus. I like to use 15 two-handed swords and 15 heavy crossbowmen, so that I'm prepared for anything; but generally avoid siege tools to save badly needed stone for my main castle. But I still lose up to 7 troops when attacking small resource villages...

I have sent over 7000 in resources to have only hundreds arrive... why is this? the game has cheated me out of resources for donation to initiate the game and now cheats me again when I send them. I don't have a desire to play in such a terrible disadvantage. I will not continue with the thorn king.

The game did not cheat you out of anything - I suggest you learn how to read. It says on the page where you send them how many will arrive. This has also been asked, answered and complained about dozens of times. I don't understand why you haven't worked it out yet.
I understand why you don't want to continue with the Thorn King - you clearly aren't clever enough to know how to match mantlets with flaming arrows, let alone work out what troops to use, which towers to attack and/or whether to use kingsguard troops with difficult towers.

I think is OK.
It's little boring collecting resource from small villages.
But freeware player can do anything...
PS>
After 1000+ morale => 180% I can't remember when I lost soldier from village attack.
I have 25 HCB and 25 2HS.

you need to get way more soldiers- all of you, you just need to attack the small resource villages, you can get enough food from them to easily sustain 200+ soldiers everyday
