The reason you have fewer losses is probably because you fought armed citizens which are pretty much good for nothings in defense. This is a guide on barbarian fortresses, not desert fortresses.
You fight desert renegades on the walls with something like 300 armed citizens in the keep.
Basically, a stronger version of the barbarian fortress.
I believe 100% melee is the best option for a barbarian fortress.

Barbarian Fortress are easy to attack. Just use lots of mantles to reduce the ranged defences then use 65% ranged attackers and 35% melee attackers. Works for me and can take out all flanks easy. Fill up all the tool slots with mantles and you will win easy

I'm planning to use 90 ranged and 270 melee attackers with the tools the video suggested. I'm doing this for the mission that'll give me 200 rubies as a reward, i wouldnt do it if it were'nt for that
I'm only sending 60 tools because with my equipment, the wall goes down to 36 percent, but I'm sending 10 anyway. Do the extra ones come back?
YES!! I won with only 37 loss!

This was my formation (I had 37 loss but i had 340 troops)
Front-Wave-1 Left-Wave-1
10 battering rams 23 veteran macemen
10 scaling ladders 10 scaling ladders
67 veteran macemen left-wave-2
Front-Wave-2 9 veteran macemen
67 bear warriors 14 bear warriors
Front-Wave-3 left wave 3
67 bear warriors 23 veteran crossbowmen
Front-Wave-4 left wave 4
20 bear bowmen 23 bear bowmen
47 veteran crossbowmen
You can see that tools are only required in the first wave. if you knock them out in the first one, tools aren't needed in the later waves. That way, it's reasonable to send 30 tools only. If you have minimal, you can send 7 scaling ladders in the front, 7 battering rams, and 9 scaling ladders on the left.
Hope this helps someone..

Could you please post your report and if you can't then please tell us what troops you used and which tools. Also, if you post your troops and tools please use a format that we can understand as I had a difficult time trying to understand AgentY's layout.
Thank you and have a great day!

lordsaruman wrote: »This is a brief guide on how to take out a Barbarian fortress. Barbarian fortresses are large castles that can be found throughout ice kingdom. They are universal so if someone defeats it, the other players have to wait a certain time before they can attack it again. Barbarian fortresses require a lot of effort, a lot of troops, and a lot of tools. But with some strategic military planning, a barbarian fortress can become less of a challenge to take down. And after all the hard work, there is a big reward in the end (I'll add an attachment later).
First you must scout the castle. This can be done by performing a military espionage.
Because all fortresses are universal they have the same number of troops at each one.
I've attached a spy report to show for it. The total troop count is 96 troops.Attachment not found.
Now that you have a spy report you need to make preparations. The minimum number of troops that I would recommend would be 200-250 if you have heavy troops. But if you have the basic troops (ie maceman, crossbowman) you will have to double the number to 400-450. The more troops you can send the better. Any less and the chances of you suceeding drop significantly.
Once you have the men you need to have tools. Personally I would recommend having a minimum of 40-50 tools. They can be anything from scaling ladders to castle iron mantlets.
Now that you have everything, you need to plan the attack. This isn't too much of a challenge. There are two options you can use. You can send the melee attackers in the first wave followed by the ranged soldiers, or you can mix them up. Either way works good. But where should you attack? Very simple, The front and the left flank. The front and the left flank are not very well defended so it will be a breeze to take them out. AVOID HITTING THE RIGHT FLANK AS IT IS WELL DEFENDED AND YOU WILL LOSE TROOPS.
After attacking a barbarian fortress, if you did everything right you should have a limited loss of troops. Something like this below. Good Luck!!

Credits go to TL II for showing me how to do this.
At the request of some forum members I showed them how I actually did this. It's not the best video and not my best planning strategy but it will do nicely for this. Enjoy!!

this thread is a waste on time: attack dragons/desert fortresses.
dragons can be killed with min. 52 deaths,
desert fortresses can be killed with 24 min. deaths.
just make a good commander with high % for ranged units)
