for desert fortresses all you need is a good ranged commander.
3 waves of tool clearers (1 troop to each side in the first 3 wave to get rid of the troops) - can be weak troops
20 mantlets on all sides. 5 ladders and 5 rams in the middle as well
all ranged troops. can do it with around 100 vet xbowmen
with a ranged commander of about 40% you lose about 40 troops.
with anything over 60% ranged power, you lose less than 30

When it comes to the other Kingdoms, the more you send altogether, the better, for sure. (fill all attack waves if you can, but if you're short on troops, send the heavy hitters. Once you're happy with the amount of Resource Villages you've acquired, then you can always "bring home" your attack troops, and beef up your defenses and defense units to "hold down the fort(s)", so to speak. Many like to use their Veterans for this purpose.

I attack 6 Barbarian fortresses a day. I lose 30-35 soldiers per attack based on my commander. The setup is easy:
Wave 1: 1 spearman on left and 1 in the middle. None on the right
Wave 2: 1 spearman on left. Middle 67 heavy crossbowman and 20 mantlets.
Wave 3: Left 23 2 handed and 10 ladders. Middle 57 2 handed and 10 heavy crossbowman no tools.
Its as easy as that!

I have a 90 melee commander and i only loose 17 at worst 19 troops i generally make 6k an attack! I have nearly made a second 90 melee commander! but at them moment i cannot produce enough troops i hit 4 a day with one commander!
I will try the dessert fort but they are always taken!

get a 90 ranged commander, trade with people to get villages next to the desert fortresses, and get the desert fortresses. they are that much better than ice fortresses.

Ok so the best way to defeat a desert fortress is to first use 1 martyr soldier on all flanks and at the same time use 20 mantlets to reduce ranged defense to 0 and at middle use ladders and rams
And then just send in 100% ranged attackers right?

Thanks alot, I will keep that on a document, the coin and ruby award is always the same, despite the amount of troops that survive/looting sacks etc right?

hmm... for the fortress i have a different strategy with fewer losses and fewer troops sent as well (credits to therealsporer for showing me this one):
left flank: 2 wave martyrs (unless you only have 3, then skip second wave), 3rd wave 8 melee 15 ranged with 10 mantlets (heavy troops at least), 4th wave all melee
front: 2 wave martyrs (unless you only have 3, then skip second wave), 3rd wave all ranged with 20 mantlets, and 4th wave all melee
right flank: forget about it
even for me with 3 waves i only lose 34 troops, while people with 4 waves lose 23 if you have a good commander.

yes, but you need more people.
with my way you can attack more at a time.
if you dont have enough people with my way you can always send in the last wave 47-47-47(all ranged with same tools), and have ALMOST the same amount of deaths.

I use the desert tactic of 3 dead waves with archers then all vet crossbow! with 4 rams and ladders in the middle with all the other tools being manlets i loose 25 troops with my 90 range commander. on desert forts! desert forts generally have a small window less than an hour!
