I use tones of rubies on my Alliance and bakeries and please add the Moat to it is good for defense :)

True but it costs a few thousand rubies and therefor extremely hard for non-ruby players to get.

what is the difference between moat and castle moat ignoring the fact one requires stone and wood to build and the other one requires rubies to build?

Good advice but still need a little more help. I'm on level 16. How do i get equipment for my commander and castellan. i got a lot of armor and stuff but no flags (look). I wish i had looked at this early cause i used rubies for eveything. HELP please I'm with an alliance and they don't even chat with me to tell me what i need to do. HELP

Then quit that alliance and find a new one :). The look part hasn't come out yet. ( you can get equipment by attacking robber baron castle around you )

Messages are free right? and rubies are important. I think this is a valid solution given the problem.

A regular resource moat gives you a 10% bonus while a ruby moat gives you a 20% bonus.

Thank you so much for the helpful advice. I was trying to find out how/why I was able to do Military Espionage on a Castle and then after waiting a very long time for results, the castle suddenly had a BIRD (protection?) and I could not attack. I just hate to learn the hard way. Thanks again for helping us newbies out. Ithena of Castle Isleanna.

This how NOT to spend your rubies:
First off just because you get 300 rubies as a gift dose not mean that you should use them to complete buildings. Let them finish on their own.
Secondly while town houses may look and sound good don't spend rubies on them. Third don't buy ruby siege or defense tools, because while they are better than regular tools if you have a good defense it shouldn't matter that much.
Fourth don't use rubies to repair damage made to your castle, while it will take longer, resources do the job fine.
Fifth when first introduced watchtowers were great, however with the recent addition of commander and castellen items they are now obsolete as some items can greatly increase the time it takes to detect incoming attacks.
Sixth- Events. With the exception of shadow mercenaries all events should be possible to accomplish without rubies. If you are active enough it is indeed possible to collect all the necessary items for each particular event be it the traveling knights or the alchemist. Remember these things will come around again so don't panic if you don't get them the first time.
Seventh, firehouses are pointless fires have long been out out just fine with resources before they came along and resources still do the job just fine.

You SHOULD save your rubies for:
Bakeries, they reduce the amount of food your soldiers eat and therefor mean you can make more.
Stables, they considerably speed up the speed of your soliders when attacking. Unlocking kingdoms, while the stone, wood and food should be easy to unlock if you want to save a lot of time and gold use them for unlocking gold instead of actual gold.
Drill grounds speed up the recruitment time of your soliders making for bigger armies in shorter amount of time. *Note* Feasts also have the same effect so DGs aren't that important.
Lastly Open gates, while they do save you from losing battles that you have no hope of winning and no damage is done to your troops or buildings.*With the latest update only use when absolutely necessary unless you want all you honor and glory to disappear.

I think it is still good to buy good defense tools from time to time (like the 50% ruby discount) then just store them for use on emergencies when really higher level players attack... since no matter how much defense troops you have maxed on the walls and gate they might not be enough to win and a significant boost from ruby defense tools might help sway the outcome.

And that is of course after the newbie already bought the bakery... For newbies wait for the 50% OFF before buying that bakery so that you'll only get it at 625 rubies instead of 1250.
